Job Description – Mechanical Olefins

Job Title : General Manager – Olefins (Mechanical)

Department : Mechanical
1. Purpose:
The main scope of the role is to lead the journey towards achieving excellence in Mechanical domain for unit for Olefins plants comprising of Naphtha Cracker Unit (NCU) and Naphtha Cracker Associated Units (NCAU) & Integrated Offsite Plants (IOP) by providing leadership to all aspects of Plant Maintenance, Health and Safety standards, Reducing machine downtime, Quality initiatives and enabling human resources in order to contribute sustainable competitive advantage.
2. Reporting & Supervisory Relationships:
Reports to: Sr. VP, Head Engineering
Direct Reports:
1. Team Leader NCU (Presently Deputy General Manager)
2. Team Leader NCAU (Presently Chief Manager)
3. Team Leader – IOP (presently Deputy General Manager)
Indirect Reports including total team size :
Total team size of 48 (Management and Non-Management) employees across NCU, NCAU & IOP
Internal Business Process interaction:
Interacts with all Manufacturing, Technology, Projects, Materials, Finance, HSEF, HR, Admin & Security etc., regularly
3. Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
 Responsible for Mechanical maintenance of the NCU, NCAU and IOP Plants by catering to deliver maximum output within budget.
 Analysing maintenance history, cost and breakdown to recommend and implement suitable activities to reduce cost and improve plant equipment performance.
 Plan and ensure inventory of spares required for day to day maintenance.
 Ensuring day-to-day operations are carried out as per the organization’s requirement with optimum utilization of resources within the approved budget while maintaining all required statutory compliances and SMPs / SOPs to achieve the production target & continual improvement.
 Inculcate Safety in Operations. Set standards, communicate expectations and develop safe working practices by way of training and use of PPE’s in the plant.
 Responsible for sustained operation as per designed load. Ensure plant availability and capacity utilisation assumed in the budget.

 Integrate operational strategies of Olefins plants by improving the productivity through implementation of latest engineering tools, techniques and concepts.
 Implementation of Excellence in engineering practices and ensuring right quality standards across the plants.
 Ensure plant safety management by monitoring all lead indicator like near miss, unsafe act and conditions. Conduct periodic permit audit and field audit and track closure of permits.
 Drive best in class and compliant Health and Safety standards and constantly upgrade and develop entire workforce for sustained HSE performance.
 Facilitate and enable proper training and development, empower and delegate proper functioning across all levels in Olefins Plants.
 Guiding team members in daily operations, trouble shooting, planning, cost control, profitability improvement and safety in operations.
 Leading the team by example and orientated towards problem solving in a collaborative framework. Ability to handle emergencies but proactively developing systems to avoid unplanned downtime or emergencies.
4. Qualifications :
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an institute of
repute.
5. Experience:
Around 25 - 28 years of post-qualification experience In Petrochemical and/ or Refinery Operations with 5-7 years’ experience in leadership position heading Olefins / Polyolefin Unit of a large Petrochemical complex with yearly revenue over INR 5000 Crores.
6. Knowledge:
 Comprehensive knowledge of rotary and static equipments in the Olefins plants and all other critical equipments.
 In-depth knowledge in latest concepts, trends and practices of large scale process industries with special emphasis to Petrochemicals, Oil and Gas industries.
7. Skills & Behaviour:
 The incumbent needs to be a strong leader with an ability to personally counsel employees at all levels below him in the Olefins Plants.
 He must have good commercial acumen, be a persuasive communicator, politically savvy, possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and be capable of thinking strategically.
 He should have an excellent man-management skills and building relationships, especially with external and internal people, at the senior level.
