General Manager R&D

It is a manufacturer of special materials for the building trade with its global headquarters based in Germany. In 2018, the Group, represented by 18 successful brands, made a turnover of €850 million with 3,300 staff.

We are looking for GM R&D for one of our clients into chemical industry. Please go through the details below:

Position: General Manager R&D

Location: Bangalore

Reporting to: Director Technical

Job Description:

• Has excellent knowledge and expertise in the formulation of resin & hardener chemistry for Industrial flooring systems
• Driving the development and localization process of products for Asian group companies, with focus on embracing/developing NEW technology for our Industrial Flooring range
• Supporting the process of (application) testing, certifying and therefore qualifying product developments prior to market introduction

The ideal candidate combines the following qualities:

(1) Track record of > 18 years of “hands-on” formulation experience
(2) Broad knowledge of local / international raw material suppliers ideally having a manufacturing background
(3) Knowledge of Asian local standards and testing institutes
(4) Solid technical understanding of application process for industrial flooring systems such as coating, multilayer, self-leveler and mortar systems
(5) Deep understanding of Industrial Flooring contractor needs
(6) Proactively leading product development projects, travel flexibility
(7) Ideally experienced in technologies other than epoxies and polyurethanes (such as Polyurea / Polyaspartics, MMA, Poly-oils, etc.)

Tasks:

• Identify gaps in product portfolios of (Asian) group companies and define a respective R&D roadmap, based on product development requests (PDR) which are defining relevant product performance criteria (focus on NEW / cutting edge technology)
• Qualification and harmonization of raw materials and formulations
• Lead, support and consult the localization and harmonization process of existing products within the group for other (Asian) markets by supporting local lab staff
• Adaption / improvement / optimization of existing products based on pre-defined performance parameters
• Support the certification process of products for local markets acc. to respective standards
• Support application testing of products to qualify them for market introduction
• Travel to and work together with group companies’ local lab and technical teams to support entire process from product request definition to localization
• Benchmark of competitor product portfolios
• Active participation in the group’s R&D team and processes
