Job Description

Looking for a Vice President of Engineering to lead and manage multiple engineering teams. You would be responsible for leading backend engineering teams that design and deliver key features in areas such as search, personalization, machine learning, image understanding using neural nets, microservices, site reliability, and performance. As an engineering leader you would closely collaborate with the VP of Product and the CEO to set the product strategy, execute, and deliver high quality features. You would get to lead technical discussions on a wide array of technologies that our teams use – data pipelines and big data processing using Airflow, Kafka, Spark, machine learning using PyTorch, microservices and application server development using Go, relational databases, and NoSQL datastores like Cassandra and Big Table.

We are looking for a leader that has delivered solutions across a similarly broad suite of software engineering topics.

Requirements

Ability to brainstorm and come up with solutions to open ended problems.
Ability to take ownership and drive initiatives end to end.
Ability to provide strategic leadership in the areas of recruiting, employee development, and team building.
Desire to learn and dive deep into new technologies on the job, especially around modern data storage and streaming open-source systems (Cassandra, Kafka, Spark, Elastic) and machine learning/deep learning (CNNs, sci-kit learn, Conventional Machine Learning techniques)
Experience building high throughput/low latency systems and establish best practices in the software development lifecycle from code reviews to CI/CD to establishing quality benchmarks.
Solid understanding of CS fundamentals - Operating Systems, Databases and Data Structures. Proficient in at least one or more programming languages including but not limited to Java, Python, or C++.
Lead a culture of innovation and experimentation, support full software development life cycle that incorporates the best of technology approaches and delivery methodologies.
Leverage your technical depth as a technologist to push your team towards a high standard of technical excellence and achieve the organization's quality bar.
Build a highly skilled and efficient team by hiring, keeping the team motivated, and managing performance.
Build a culture of agile development, continuous improvement, and a strong sense of product ownership.
Identify architectural issues and plans to resolve them.
Proactively identify risks and define mitigations plans.
Prioritize to manage ad-hoc requests in parallel with ongoing projects.
